Tap and jazz dancer
Roser Font
Roser Font was born in Barcelona in 1976. She began dancing at the age of seven. She has studied various dance styles, including classical dance, contemporary dance, ballroom dance, musical theater, and especially jazz dance and tap dance. She has also studied acting and singing.
She performed as a singer and dancer with the Contrac Dansa company.
With Crac al Gag, she toured Spain with the show Fiddler on the Roof.
In 1998, she furthered her studies in tap and jazz dance in New York at the prestigious schools Dance Space, Steps, and Broadway Dance Center. That same year, she specialized in the Lynn Simonson jazz dance technique in Barcelona. In July 1998, she collaborated with the Stomp company on a commercial.
Since 1999, she has performed with the tap dance company Barcelona Rhythm Tap, directed by Guillem Alonso, her dance partner. With the company and as a solo tap dancer, she has performed with jazz and Dixieland musicians at the Terrassa Jazz Festival, the Nit de Claqué in Reus, various theaters, and on television. She also performed in the percussion and tap show Trastos; has appeared in several children’s productions as an actress and tap dancer; in the show Saxtap with saxophonist Liva Villavecchia; at the Scenic Theater; and is an active member of the Els Comediants company.
In July 2001, she performed as a guest artist at the Frankental Austrian Festival as a tap dancer, musical theater performer, and singer.
In September 2001, she returned to New York, where she danced in Tap Jams (improvised tap dance performances) alongside dancers such as Roxane Butterfly, Max Pollack, Buster Brown, Rod Ferrone, Omar Edwards, and others.
During the 2000–2001 and 2001–2002 seasons, she was a solo tap dancer and a jazz and Irish dancer in the internationally acclaimed show Fire of Dance, with which she toured Poland, Germany, Austria, Italy, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, the Netherlands, Hungary, Slovakia, and Belgium.
She was invited to perform at the Heidelberg Tap Festival in September 2002.
She is the director, choreographer, and dancer of the show Trakatap, with which they performed a season at the Versus Teatre in Barcelona in March 2006, appeared at the 2006 Valladolid Festival, and participated in the TVE1 program “Mira quién baila,” among others.
She is a solo tap dancer in the show Enramblao by renowned flamenco dancer Rafael Amargo.
Roser Font is one of the lead tap dancers at the weekly Tap Jams in Barcelona and has taught jazz and tap dance at various schools.
